Clinical Supervision

Laptop

ACS Certification:

I have been Credentialed by the Center for Credentialing and Education (CCE) as an Approved Clinical Supervisor (ACS) allowing me to provide Interns and Licensed Associate Counselors (LAC’s) clinical supervision toward full independent licensure (LPC). An ACS certification identifies mental health professionals who have met national professional supervision standards. The ACS promotes the clinical supervisor’s professional identity, visibility, and accountability and encourages professional growth. Having the ACS demonstrates professional competence and leadership, specifically in the area of counselor education and supervision.

Approach:

I approach clinical supervision from a collaborative framework to help LAC's clearly develop their theoretical orientation, style, and professional identity.  The areas of focus in supervision include working to increase competence in major clinical domains and professional behaviors: creating a therapeutic relationship, counseling skills, case conceptualization, screening and assessment. Personal growth and awareness, ethical and professional standards also remain a focus.

I follow an individualized developmental approach to supervision, primarily using the teacher role with novice LAC's and consultation with more experienced LAC's.  In my role as Supervisor, I act as mentor, evaluator, and consultant.  Together, we will develop a Plan of Supervision that will reflect your personal needs and the requirements of the Licensing Board. During supervision we will enhance your personal and professional awareness and growth. In our weekly supervision meetings I will provide feedback, guidance and encouragement.

Expectations:

I consult with supervisees one formal hour each week and encourage more frequent dialog when needed.  Supervisees are given my cell phone number for emergency purposes and are encouraged to reach out to me with any concerns.

Our work together is confidential except under certain circumstances.  These exceptions include any circumstance in which I am concerned for your safety or the safety of others- risk of self-harm, harm to others, or the abuse of children or elders.  It is your obligation to inform your clients that you are receiving supervision and that your supervisor will be privy to confidential information about them.
